About St. Mary School

The mission of St. Mary School is to form students of diverse backgrounds into young disciples in the image of Christ, together building a foundation of rigorous academics, community service, and moral values in the Catholic tradition.

We are a traditional Catholic school found in downtown Marion, Ohio. We have served the families of Marion since 1875, and we are proud to continue the rich history of Catholic education in this great community.

Our Faith

Our entire school attends Mass once per week during the school year. We practice prayer and adoration regularly. Religious instruction is also a component of our curriculum, a required class. We are proud to be unabashedly Catholic, and we hope to share our faith with all our families, Catholic and non-Catholic.

Our Academics

St. Mary School uses a rigorous curriculum driven by our diocesan course of study, which is in addition to our focus on state standards. Our standards-based grading system provides clear and important information on each child’s progress. We refrain from heavy standardized testing and prefer to focus on letting our teachers do what they do best: teach.

Our Service

We are committed to service around the parish and the community. Our students contribute to the tasks that keep our school and Church running smoothly. They also contribute to the community, completing service projects each year for different organizations such as St. Vincent de Paul.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where/When can I schedule a tour of the school?

Please call the school at 740-382-1607 to schedule a tour, or email us at school@marionstmary.org. We are glad to show your family the building and introduce you to our staff.

What is the cost of tuition, and how do families pay?

Tuition for the 2023-2024 school year begins at 5500.00 for a single student that does not participate in the parish. Many families receive a full scholarship or financial aid to attend, thanks to the state’s EdChoice Scholarship program. Families are encouraged to work with the school to find tuition solutions.

How large are the classes?

St. Mary School offers small class sizes, which allows each child to get individual focus and attention. Many of our classrooms have aides or tutors working with the teachers, making our staff/student ratio quite low.

Are there sports and activities?

For the 2023-2024 school year, we will offer several different activities outside the school day, including soccer, cross country, basketball, and our after school program. More details can be found in Admissions.

Is there transportation for my child?

Each of the 5 major districts (Marion, Ridgedale, Elgin, Pleasant, River Valley) buses students to our school. We will work with your family to find transportation solutions.

Are non-Catholic children welcomed?

Absolutely! In fact, St. Mary School serves a large amount of non-Catholic students. Around 50 percent of our students are non-Catholic. Families in Marion choose us not just for our commitment to our faith, but for our strong discipline and academics. Non-Catholic families are welcomed in our school, and provide a quality education to all.
